Presiden't Message May 2012
With our Assemblies all behind us, we can now set our sights on the June 26th Primary. There are Republican candidates who need your time, talent, and treasure to win the Primary so get behind your chosen candidate and get to work!
The State Assembly and Dinner was an exciting time and brought home some of the reasons we are Republicans . . . . limited, less intrusive government, lower taxes and less regulations, personal responsibility, and a strong national defense! We have a great slate of candidates who need our help! The keynote speaker at the Dinner, Karl Rove, was informative and engaging and gave us all a lot to think about in preparation for this election year which will not be a walk in the park! We have a LOT to do to insure a Republican victory!
Congratulations to our own Lilly Nuñez on her re-election as our Republican National Committeewoman!
Co-chairs Margo Knutson and Barbara Piper and Committee are hard at work on the Silent/Live Auction that we will have in conjunction with our September 19th meeting. Please see the article in this newsletter to see how you can help us in the worthwhile fundraising effort.
The DCGOP Lincoln Day Dinner is fast approaching on May 12th. We have one full table for DCRW and can put together another one if there are ten of you who would like to go in on another table. Price per person would be $70 if you have a table and $75 if you do not so please let me know if you’re interested in a table and I’ll see what we can do for you! Go to www.dcgop.org for more information on the event which is being held at Cielo’s in Castle Pines.
We also have to start working hard on the GOTV (Get Out The Vote) effort so we can unseat President Obama and put a Republican back in the White House! Since Colorado is a swing State, Douglas County is key in Colorado’s efforts in bringing in the votes for our Party so we can go RED this election year! Now is the time to start walking those precincts to meet and talk to your neighbors and show them the reasons to vote Republican so we can save our Republic! You can volunteer in your precinct by going to www.dcgop.org to sign up. I know that not everyone had their chosen Presidential candidate rise to the top, but now is the time for all of us to UNITE and stop squabbling and whining! We are giving the Democrats all the ammunition they need to run a vicious anti-Republican campaign – let’s not shoot ourselves in the foot again! UNITE – UNITE – UNITE!! The candidates all know that the power to get things done is a result of the hard work that Republican women do for the Republican cause . . . let’s show them how great we are!!
Since we do not meet over the summer, May 16th will be our last meeting until September 19th not counting the evening event which is in the planning stages. This will be the last complete newsletter until September 1st; however, we will be in contact with all of you through various email updates so be on the lookout for them!
We look forward to seeing you at the many Republican events over the summer, including the evening event in mid-August. Have a fun and safe summer!
Yours in Liberty and Freedom,
Marsha Haeflein, President

April 2012
This election year is now in full-swing . . . just check out the Calendar of Events and you’ll see that there is something to participate in every week!

All of our Assemblies are behind us with the exception of the Assemblies on April 13th along with the State Centennial Dinner and the State Assembly on April 14th. Now is the time to get behind the candidate(s) of your choice and help them in their campaigns by contributing your time, talents, and treasure as you’re able to do. Remember . . . Republican women are the backbone of the Republican Party and it is up to each and every one of us to pitch in and do our part to help bring a Republican victory in November!
Tanne Blackburn, Marolyn and Deb Scheffel, Karla Dimond, and I had a great time at the CFRW Convention in Colorado Springs! It was a wonderful learning experience and a chance to meet Republican women from all over the State. Unfortunately, Tanne and I were not able to attend the entire Convention since we were at the 18th Judicial Assembly prior to driving down so we did miss some of the activities. The dinner was great and we were able to meet and talk to the keynote speaker, former Senator John Andrews from the Centennial Institute.
The Day at the Legislature was a huge success and we were honored to have four of our legislators join us . . . Senators Mark Scheffel and Ted Harvey and Representatives Carole Murray and Chris Holbert. Douglas Co. Treasurer Diane Holbert also joined us so we had a great turnout with them and all of our DCRW members who attended. The weather even held out so we could get our picture taken on the steps of the Capitol! Thanks to all of you who attended!
Your Board is currently planning our evening event which will be held in August and I hope all of you will be able to support this special night out.
The 2012 Membership Directory is at the printer’s along with an updated tri-fold brochure so we’ll be looking forward to being able to hand them out to all our members in the near future.
Again, we are Republicans and we have to keep working on helping our candidates this election year! We must work diligently to keep (and increase) the majority in our Colorado House and win the majority in the Colorado Senate. Additionally, we have to help Congressman Mike Coffman keep his 6th CD seat in the U.S. House of Representatives and get behind our new Congressman Cory Gardner in the 4th CD. AND WE MUST MAKE BARACK OBAMA A ONE-TERM PRESIDENT!!
If you need more information, please give me a call and I’ll let you know where you can volunteer and/or direct you to your chosen candidate. Remember the old saying, “If it is to be, it is up to me.”
Yours in Liberty and Freedom,
Marsha Haeflein

March Message
The 2012 election year is now in full force and there are certainly a lot of activities in which you can become involved. Congratulations to all of you who participated in the Republican Caucus and special thanks to those of you who want to become more involved by being elected as a Precinct Committee Person (PCP) and/or a Delegate/Alternate to the Douglas County Assembly on March 10th! It is women and men like you who are essential in taking back our Republic and I commend you for your dedication! I hope all of you will try to go on to the higher Assemblies and become an integral part of the grass-roots efforts of selecting our Republican candidates for each of these offices. The various times and locations for the higher Assemblies in March and April leading up to the State Assembly on April 14th are listed in the Calendar of Events. Get behind a candidate of your choice now with your time, talents, and treasure as you’re able. They all need your support! As you can see in the Colorado Federation of Republican Women update in this newsletter, CFRW has several events for March, April, and May in which you can give your support by attending the various functions. I urge you to become involved in all that you can since we are under the umbrella of CFRW and need to support their efforts in electing Republican candidates to office on all levels – county, state, and federal. There is certainly a lot for all of us to do to make this a banner Republican year! If you have not already done so, please fill out the Volunteer sheets that are available at the meetings and included in this newsletter so we know in what areas you are interested in. We need ALL OF YOU to make a difference!
Many thanks to Margo Knutson for putting together a great DA Candidate Forum and to all the candidates who participated! If you were unable to attend this Forum, you missed a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our Republican candidates for this very important position! Don’t be left out on March 21st when we’ll have a forum for the Douglas County District 2 Commissioner candidates.
Thanks also to Debbie Gamec for sending out gift boxes for Valentine’s Day to some of our military personnel overseas. If it wasn’t for the generosity of our members each month by putting some needed cash in the Military Project Baskets on the luncheon tables, Debbie would not be able to do her special magic in buying and sending the gifts to them. Please continue to support this special project so we can send a little bit of home to those so far away!
Again, BECOME INVOLVED so we can keep our REPUBLIC . . . it’s up to all of us!
Yours in Liberty and Freedom,
Marsha

February 2012 President's Message
I am honored to be your new President and will do the very best I can to help DCRW maintain its status as one of the best Republican Womens Clubs in Colorado! We have had wonderful women on the Board in the past and it continues with the new Board that was just elected . . . dedicated women who want the very best for our County, State, and Country. With their help and the dedicated efforts of so many of our members, I know our Club will continue to flourish because of everyone’s continued contributions. Thanks to all of you!
As we start out this election year, we can all agree that this is the most critical election of our lifetime. What we do to elect good Republicans to office will determine the direction our Country will take for many years to come. It is imperative that all of us work hard for our candidates with our time, talents, and financial support as much as we’re able to do. We know that the Democrats are expecting a war chest of ONE BILLION DOLLARS to enable them to keep control of the U.S. Senate and the White House. We cannot let this happen for the sake of our beloved Country. Remember the old saying, “If it is to be, it’s up to me.” That is never more true than in this election!
The first thing that I would encourage you to do is to attend your precinct Caucus on February 7th. If you do not know where it is, you can go to our County GOP website to find where your precinct is meeting: www.dcgop.org If you have the time and energy to become a Precinct Committee Person (PCP), by all means run for that position! We need a lot of boots on the ground to be successful this year. If you are a PCP, you’ll be a part of the DCGOP Central Committee and will be an important part of the Get Out The Vote (GOTV) effort. At your Caucus meeting, you can also be elected as a Delegate to the various assemblies to vote for whom you want to represent us in the Primary. The most contested offices we have in Douglas County will be the County Commissioner’s District 2 race, the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s race and, for some of you, Colorado House District 39. Become informed and get behind your candidate for these offices and help them get on the Primary ballot! To help you in your choices, we’ll be having the District Attorney Candidate Forum at our February meeting and the Commissioner Candidate Forum at our March meeting so be sure to come and get involved!
After the Caucus and the various Assemblies, we’ll know who will be in the Primary so you can then pick your candidate and lend your full support to that person by becoming an active participant in their campaign by making phone calls, walking precincts, helping with mailings, or contributing financially. Please remember though, that if your original candidate did not make it through the Primary cycle, it is incumbent upon all of us to get behind the candidate who has been selected to assure a Republican victory in November.
If you still have questions on how to become involved, speak to any of the current or past DCRW officers or someone you trust for guidance in finding ways to help. In addition to attending our monthly meetings, there are a number of public forums being held around the County to help you vet the candidates. It is imperative that all of us become knowledgeable on the issues and the candidates so we can then help educate our Democrat and Unaffiliated friends on why it is so important to elect Republicans to office!
This sounds like I’m preaching, right? Well, I want to impress upon all of you the importance of becoming INVOLVED and ACTIVE in this crucial election year. Our PARTICIPATION will make sure that our Country takes the right direction because right now we’ve gone off- course dramatically. Remember that we’re a part of the National Federation of Republican Women . . . 78,000+ strong . . . and our voices must be heard! We have no option other than to get involved for the sake of our Country!Yours in Liberty,
Marsha Haeflein

This is my last official message as President of DCRW. Let me say a very heartfelt thank you for placing your trust in me and for the honor of serving this club for the last 4 years. I will be leaving this office and the club in great hands. Please assist the new President and the new board with your time and your ideas as you did with me. I know that they are all very excited about providing you with new leadership and new energy. Both of those commodities will be needed in abundance throughout this year.
